The Alabama Crimson Tide have a hotly contested quarterback battle going on during fall camp, but many expect Tua Tagovailoa to ultimately win the job.

However, it’s too soon to count Jalen Hurts out yet, as the incumbent starter had a big performance in Saturday’s scrimmage.

On Monday, CBS Sports analyst Brian Jones broke down the competition, explaining why he thinks Tagovailoa will win. He also added that he understands why Hurts’s feelings would be hurt by recent developments:

“There’s no question he’s the better passer,” Jones says. “We’ll see how it plays out in camp — Jalen may come in and win the job. One great thing about sports is that it teaches you to handle and confront adversity. And there’s been some adversity for this man. He’s probably been the best at everything he’s ever done growing up. Now, last year, on the biggest stage, he has to face that kind of adversity — being benched. He was out there cheering for Tagovailoa, so he showed he’s a team player, but of course his feelings were hurt. He’s a human being.”

We’ll have to see when coach Nick Saban names a starter, but there’s no rush in Tuscaloosa.
