Following Tua Tagovailoa’s emergence in Monday night’s epic National Championship Game, many are anticipating Jalen Hurts may begin to look around for a better opportunity. It certainly seems like he’s not going to start over Tagovailoa at this point heading into 2018.

While an offseason battle is sure to commence, if Tagovailoa wins it, what will Hurts decide to do?

Former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy recently shared his thoughts on that subject with Dan Patrick. According to McElroy, Texas could be a viable option. The ESPN analyst notes that the Longhorns are “in the quarterback market” and notes that Hurts is originally from Texas.

That’s an interesting comment from McElroy to be sure, however, it should be noted that Texas has two quarterbacks on its roster in sophomore Shane Buechele and freshman Sam Ehlinger — and both have played well in spots. The Longhorns also just signed the No. 9 pro-style QB in the nation in Cameron Rising. Just how “in the market” Texas is for a QB remains to be seen.

Based on Hurts’ comments following Monday’s championship victory, he’s given no indication he’s unhappy following his benching. While many are going to be eager to shop his name around this offseason, don’t be surprised if he’s back in Tuscaloosa next season playing a role for the Tide’s offense.
