Most of the time, defensive players don’t receive much consideration for the Heisman Trophy. In fact, there’s only been 1 to win the award — Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997.

But there are some players on Alabama’s roster who believe 1 of their teammates should be in the Heisman conversation this season. And that’s sophomore linebacker Will Anderson Jr.

Through 9 games, Anderson has 65 tackles and 10 sacks, 7 of which have come during the Crimson Tide’s past 3 games. He’s been on a tear, and he’s been impressive to watch.

So, should Anderson be in the Heisman mix?

“You guys see it every single Saturday, Will’s all over the place, making plays,” Crimson Tide junior linebacker Henry To’o To’o said, per Charlie Potter of 247Sports.com. “I think Will should be up there, I really do.”

Junior defensive tackle DJ Dale expressed a similar sentiment.

“His name is not coming up for no reason. I feel like he deserves to be there,” Dale said, according to Potter. “But I know Will. He’s just going to work. He’s not really worried about it. Will is great, and he’s amazing to play with.”

Alabama sophomore defensive back Malachi Moore has taken to social media with his campaign to get Anderson some Heisman consideration. After the Crimson Tide’s win over LSU this past Saturday, Moore tweeted the following:

While Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has been getting much of the attention in Heisman conversations, perhaps the Crimson Tide’s efforts to get Anderson in the mix will be successful. If not, it doesn’t take away from the incredible season that Anderson is having for Alabama’s defense.
