If Arkansas is going to be successful this season, it will likely need some progression from several key returning players on its offense.

Two of those players could be sophomore quarterback Cole Kelley and senior wide receiver Jared Cornelius, who both recently earned rave reviews from strength and conditioning coach Trumain Carroll during a recent interview with Sport & Story.

Kelley passed for 1,038 yards and eight touchdowns last season while filling in for injured starter Austin Allen. He may fare even better for new coach Chad Morris this year after he had a focused offseason workout program.

“With Cole Kelley’s training throughout the summer, our focus was his core, his core strength,” Carroll said. “Being such a tall, long guy, we really wanted to emphasize his core strength, because anything that you try to build on top of anything that doesn’t have a strong core, it won’t sustain.”

Cornelius played only three games last season for the Razorbacks, compiling five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. He missed most of the season with a left Achilles injury. But after undergoing surgery, he could be poised to have a bounce-back year.

“I’m very impressed with Jared Cornelius because of the simple fact we weren’t able to train him when we first arrived on campus, because he was still within the rehab protocols with athletic trainers,” Carroll said. “You talk about a guy who’s made his game essentially from May up until today. … He’s moving very well.”
