Arkansas tight end Var’Keyes Gumms has made his transfer decision.

The veteran tight end, who spent a pair of seasons at North Texas before transferring to Arkansas, is now headed to UNLV, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Gumms is set to play for Dan Mullen as the former Mississippi State and Florida head coach takes the reins in Las Vegas.

Gumms, a Houston native former 3-star recruit from the 2021 class, began his college career close to home as he spent a pair of seasons at North Texas. After redshirting in 2021, he made 34 catches for 458 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2022, earning him a Conference USA All-Freshman coaches’ nod.

He then entered the transfer portal and landed at Arkansas, but made just 3 catches for 26 yards. In 2024, he played in 5 games and was credited with a single catch before being dismissed for an unspecified rules violation.

Now, with one year of eligibility remaining, Gumms will look to reignite a career that showed plenty of promise initially. He’ll attempt to do so under Mullen in his first head-coaching job since being fired by Florida in 2021. Mullen replaces Barry Odom, who left for Purdue after a 19-8 record with the Rebels.
