Austin Allen responded almost instantaneously Wednesday when asked about the uniforms Arkansas will don this weekend.

“They’re awesome,” said Allen, the Razorbacks starting quarterback, referring to the Dallas Cowboys replica uniforms they will sport this weekend against Texas A&M at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But to Allen, the uniforms’ importance went far beyond their looks.

“I think it’s a really cool gesture what we did and how much Jerry Jones liked it,” Allen said of Jones, who owns the Cowboys and was a co-captain on Arkansas’ 1964 national title team. “We still have video of him talking about it and it kind of got us all pumped up. And then we got to go out and practice in them on Sunday and they’re awesome. There’s a lot of Texas guys on the team who grew up wanting to be Dallas Cowboys. It’s the closest thing to it we can get right now.”

The team was “taken aback,” Allen said, when they first laid eyes on the uniform. And Allen said it didn’t hurt that they “looked” and “felt” good to wear.

Now, he’s eager for Saturday’s noon ET kickoff to arrive.

“They’re sleek,” he said. “They look just like the Cowboys’ uniform, replica-type deal. I’m excited to put it on and play in it.”
