Connor Noland is off to a great start in the Cubs organization, and the former Arkansas pitcher enjoyed his most dominant outing as a pro on Thursday night.

Pitching for the South Bend Cubs, Noland threw 5 shutout innings and allowed only 2 hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out 4 batters. What may have made it more special was Noland pitched the final out to Razorbacks battery mate Casey Opitz.

As he was in line for his first professional win, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers came back to beat the Cubs and held on for a 3-1 victory. Noland ended both the 1st and 2nd innings with back-to-back strikeouts.

Noland last year was drafted in the 9th round (No. 263 overall).

Noland has made 6 starts, and has an 0-1 record with a 3.09 ERA. He’s pitched 23 1/3 innings, and struck out 22 with a WHIP of 1.16.
