The Razorbacks value a physical brand of football, but that hasn’t been reflected in their run defense as of late. On Sunday, Arkansas landed a player who may be able to help fix that problem.

Independence Community College defensive tackle Emmit Gooden is 6-foot-4 and a whopping 320 pounds. He announced his commitment to the Razorbacks via Twitter, picking them over offers from Alabama, Lousiville, Mississippi State and Oklahoma.

At various points in his high school and college career Gooden has been committed to Tennessee and Mississippi State, so there may be some concern for Arkansas fans about him backing out before National Signing Day. Based on the note he released after making his decision, however, it seems that Gooden is extremely excited about his choice.

The Razorbacks should be excited as well. As a true freshman at Independence, Gooden recorded 55 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles in just seven games.

Gooden is a 3-star defensive tackle prospect and rated the No. 3 JUCO player at his position and the No. 10 overall JUCO prospect, according to 247Sports.
