Grant Morgan receives national defensive Player of the Week award following huge game
That Arkansas defense received some more love this week following the banner game in the win over Ole Miss. One of the stars of the show, Grant Morgan, was named the Chuck Bednarik Award national player of the week for his performance against Ole Miss.
This came after the linebacker was named the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week following the Hogs’ win over Ole Miss. Morgan racked up 19 tackles, including 3 for a loss, and a pick-six.
Morgan became the second FBS player since 2000 to record at least 15 tackles with 3.0 tackles for loss and an interception return for a touchdown. His 19 tackles are the second-most in a single-game by an FBS player this season, trailing teammate Bumper Pool’s 20 stops at Mississippi State.
During the start of a special season at Arkansas, the former walk-on became the third Hog to earn SEC co-Defensive Player of the Week Recognition earlier this week, after LB Bumper Pool and DB Joe Foucha.
Arkansas’ defense intercepted six passes against the Rebels, which tied for the fifth-most single-game total in school history. Arkansas leads the nation with 10 interceptions this season.
Morgan leads the nation averaging 13.0 tackles per game and also leads the SEC in total tackles (52), which is seven more than teammate Jalen Catalon, who his tied for second in the league.

Well deserved. Especially while playing with an injured arm.
Congrats to a tough kid! More to come…
The SEC didn’t even recognize Morgan in their weekly “Power ranking the top 10 players in the SEC after Week 4”. not even honorable mention.
Not to take away from what Grant Morgan is doing for the hogs right now, but Catalon is the best player on the defense right now and he’s a redshirt freshmen. If he keeps playing at his level and improving there we’re looking at one of the best defensive players to come through Fayetteville. You can’t hardly watch a play and not see #1 in on the play. He’s like a 12th man on the field.
I think you meant SDS, not the SEC. That was an SDS writer’s opinion, and yes, he completely left Morgan off even the “honorable mention” portion of the list.
