Nick Starkel won’t be participating in spring football in College Station in the coming weeks but he will have the opportunity to at least view some practices this spring.

However, any spring practices Starkel observes won’t be happening at Texas A&M, as the soon-to-be graduate has announced he plans to leave College Station via transfer as soon as he earns his undergraduate degree this spring. Based on recent comments from Starkel, Arkansas and Florida State appear to be the frontrunners for his services.

“I scheduled an official to FSU for March 29th weekend. I’m going to Arkansas on March 1st,” Starkel recently said according to Josh Newberg of 247Sports. “I have spring break in between those two and FSU has spring break, which is the only reason they’re so far apart.”

Both visits will be classified as official visits. According to Newberg, Starkel said he plans to make his decision following the upcoming visit to Florida State. Starkel will be eligible immediately in 2019 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The Razorbacks have already added SMU graduate transfer quarterback Ben Hicks, SMU’s all-time leading passer, this offseason after losing Cole Kelley to transfer. Hicks played for Chad Morris at SMU in 2016 and 2017 during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Ty Storey is also expected to leave Arkansas this offseason and is currently listed in the transfer portal.

Florida State recently dismissed quarterback Deondre Francois from the team and has failed to sign a single quarterback prospect in the 2018 or 2019 recruiting cycles under Willie Taggart.

Starkel started for Texas A&M to open the 2017 season before suffering an injury that kept him out of the lineup for several weeks. Kellen Mond then beat out Starkel for the starting job in 2018 in the first season of the Jimbo Fisher era. Starkel has thrown for 1,962 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions during his college career.
