Recruited as a wide receiver, LaMichael Pettway could move his talents to the defensive side of the ball when he arrives at Arkansas as a member of the 2015 class — if the Razorbacks can keep him at all.

The three-star athlete out of Nashville, Ark., committed to assistant Barry Lunney in October, but Louisville and Alabama have remained hot on Pettway’s trail as potential suitors. The lure of playing in a spread offense vs. Bret Bielema’s run-heavy scheme could be enough to flip Pettway, one of three current wide receiver commits, on signing day.

Pettway’s a much-needed addition to an Arkansas receiving corps lacking playmakers. Leading wideout Keon Hatcher will return for his senior season next fall, but the Razorbacks’ next closest available pass-catcher will be rising sophomore Jared Cornelius, who made 18 receptions for 212 yards this fall.

The majority of Brandon Allen’s targets this season went to reliable tight ends Hunter Henry and A.J. Derby. Pettway has the potential to be a No. 1 on the outside if he sticks and Bielema keeps him on offense.
