Published:

Recently, it had been revealed that former Arkansas coach Bret Bielema had been hoping for a promotion to the defensive coordinator position for the New England Patriots after 2018 DC Brian Flores left to coach the Miami Dolphins.

However, that won’t be the case, it seems, as another former NFL head coach is being brought in by Bill Belichick to take Flores’ spot.

Per the Boston Globe, former Ohio State DC Greg Schiano will be hired to coach the New England defense in 2019:

The Patriots will name Greg Schiano their new defensive coordinator imminently, a league source confirmed Wednesday.

Schiano, you’ll remember, was in the mix to be the new head coach at Tennessee before outrage in Knoxville caused that deal to fall through.

Bielema remains on the Pats’ coaching staff for now, but we’ll see if other opportunities come calling soon.
