If Auburn coach Gus Malzahn is feeling any pressure from his athletic director, it doesn’t appear like those conversations will be made public.

Tigers AD Allen Greene took a mostly neutral stance when asked about Malzahn during a meeting with reporters at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham. As you can see in a YouTube video posted by AL.com, Greene walked a fine line when discussing Malzahn, who has come under fire for Auburn’s stunning 4-3 start and plummet from the polls.

“I recognize that Auburn football and the standing of a coach is a hot topic, considering where not really where we want to be and not where we expected to be,” Greene told reporters. “As I’ve shared with Coach, my responsibility is to support him and his team, and we’ll continue doing that, continue working to get better.”

Greene also fielded questions about whether he has spoken with Malzahn about his performance, if the coach has measured up to his standards and other issues surrounding the Tigers’ season.
