Auburn has lost one of its backup cornerbacks one game into the season.

On Tuesday, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn announced that John Broussard Jr. has left the program. Broussard, a junior, was the backup cornerback on the right side. Freshman Roger McCreary will be among those filling in the role after Broussard’s departure.

Broussard had eight tackles in 16 games over his first two seasons at Auburn, mostly playing on special teams.

“John Broussard has left the team to pursue other things,” Malzahn told the media, including AL.com’s James Crepea.

Broussard is the second player to leave the program since the start of fall camp, joining backup offensive lineman Tyler Carr.

Broussard didn’t play in the Tigers’ season opener against Washington, which they won, 21-16.
