The Georgia Bulldogs received a boost this week, getting its star tailback Todd Gurley back from a four-game suspension.

Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson is the person charged with slowing a refreshed Gurley, once a Heisman frontrunner and off to arguably the best start of his career in red and black.

“We’ll probably have to try a little bit of everything,” Johnson said Sunday evening, according to AL.com. “Nobody’s stopped him and some of them slowed him down a little bit. The only guy that stopped him was the autograph guy.”

The Tarboro, N.C., native led the SEC with 154.6 rushing yards per game during the first six weeks before being abruptly suspended for accepting money for his autograph.

Georgia fared well in his absence with freshman stud Nick Chubb carrying the load. The Bulldogs went 3-1 with Gurley out, and Chubb rushed for at least 143 yards in each game. Georgia ranks second in the league behind the Tigers in rushing, averaging 256.3 yards per game.

“It’s going to be tough now,” Johnson said. “They’ve got two backs that can start for anybody.”

Run defense was the strength of Johnson’s unit early in the season, surrendering a little more than 100 yards per game. That number has spiraled downward lately, with Auburn giving up more than 160 yards per game to its last four opponents.

“Going back and looking at their early-season films, Gurley’s like a time bomb,” Johnson said. “When is he going to get that 95-yard kickoff, when is he going to get that 40-yard run, when is he going to catch that 35-yard screen pass? You got to exactly right on him every time because he’s either going to break the physical tackle or he’s going to out run the space tackle. He’s a specimen. I’m sure they’ll be glad to get him back.”
