Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson experienced a right ankle injury during the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Mississippi State.

Johnson leads the Tigers with 538 yards and six touchdowns on 105 rushing attempts. The true freshman had 21 yards on three carries in Saturday’s game prior to the injury.

Johnson was shown testing out his ankle on Auburn’s sideline during its insuring offensive possession and had a piece of protective plastic taped over the front of his shin, ESPN field analyst Cole Cubelic reported during the broadcast.

Auburn leads Mississippi State 14-0 with 3:44 remaining in the first quarter.
