Obviously, that’s a signature win for a potential College Football Playoff resume, but since it’s still Week 1, it’s too early for the Tigers to start thinking that big.
That’s the message DL Dontavius Russell conveyed after the win. When asked what message the Tigers sent, Russell had the perfect matter-of-fact response, as you can see below:
Going through some more interviews from last night and I think I just found my favorite moment.
REPORTER: "What message did Auburn make to the nation today?"
DONTAVIUS RUSSELL: "That we won our first game."

After a big win like that, Russell was right to downplay it a bit. An easier matchup against Alabama State is on the schedule for next weekend, but the Tigers still have a lot of work to do to pad their Playoff resume.
For now, though, Auburn is 1-0, and it’s a win no other team can say it got in the opening weekend.
