Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers have now lost 2 heartbreakers in a row and dropped 4 of their last 5 contests. Simply put, things are not going well on the Plains to start February.

The Tigers played much better against Texas A&M Tuesday night compared to their performance last week against Tennessee. Auburn was right there the entire night but just couldn’t finish, losing 83-78.

And the fans in College Station were letting Pearl hear it, no doubt. With the frustrations boiling, Pearl retorted and was caught on video. The original author claims Pearl hurled some obscenities towards the Aggies fans, but it’s impossible to tell in the below video.

Make your own interpretation:

Auburn is not a lock for the NCAA Tournament right now despite the obvious talent, not by a long shot. Not only did last night’s loss inch them closer to the bubble, it gave Texas A&M a tiebreaker over them should both be compared for the field in March. Their best win on the season is either Northwestern in November or a banged up Arkansas squad in Auburn at the start of January. Remember, the Tigers also have a loss to a shaky Georgia team on their resume.

But it’s not all bad. If the SEC Tournament started today, Auburn would be a 4-seed at 7-4 in conference play. There’s still time to right the ship, too, with opportunities against Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama (X2) on their remaining schedule.
