Bo Nix enters his third season at Auburn with two years of starting quarterback experience. This season, however, he’s playing for a new head coach and another SEC quarterback with starting experience, TJ Finley, has joined the roster.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin was asked about the possibility of playing two quarterbacks in Auburn’s season-opener against Akron.

“Yeah, well come Sept. 4, that’s — I’ve done that before, so that’s not out of the (realm of) possibilities. Let’s be clear: That’s not what we’re working toward right now,” Harsin told reporters Saturday night. “Right now, we’re developing each quarterback to go out there and play the position and be the quarterback. I’ve used multiple quarterbacks for situational things, and because guys deserve to play at that position; I’ve coached some good players, starters and backups.”

After discussing the offense in general, Harsin circled back to what he’s looking for from his quarterbacks.

“All the time at the quarterback position it really comes down to decision-making,” Harsin said. “That’s a huge part of what we’re working through now just learning and making progress as far as what we’re doing and learning to execute the offense and how it needs to look each and every day and every practice and then making great decisions on the field.

“When you go out there and it’s time to play, you’ve got to make great decisions. You’ve got to make sure you’re putting your team in the best position to win and taking care of the football and making the right checks and knowing what you’re doing. That goes back to our preparation and the day-to-day of just having ourselves ready every time we go out there on the field and in practice, so it shows up in a game.”

Harsin liked what he saw in Saturday’s scrimmage.

“There’s some really good things tonight at the quarterback position,” the head coach said. “I thought all the guys ran the ball well and did some things and threw the ball well at times. There’s plenty to correct. That will be the focus with that position moving forward this week is the decision-making process.”
