Zach Calzada has yet to play in the 2022 season. The Auburn quarterback, who transferred from Texas A&M, was set to undergo season-ending surgery, according to a report from On3’s Justin Hokanson on Sept. 22.

Head coach Bryan Harsin had yet to confirm or deny the report, though. That is, until Monday, when he revealed that Calzada’s surgery date was set for Wednesday, according to Opelika Auburn News beat writer Adam Cole. Robby Ashford had been in the starting role with TJ Finley having suffered an apparent shoulder strain.

Harsin also revealed that Trey Lindsay, a senior QB from Montgomery, Ala. who walked on to the team in 2019, was now on scholarship.

“He’s out there every single week. This guy’s a future coach. He brings a tremendous value and a lot of really positive things to this team,” Harsin said.

As Cole notes, prior to Monday, the only healthy quarterbacks on scholarship were Ashford and former 4-star recruit Holden Gernier, a true freshman. That said, there’s no word as of yet regarding Finley’s status as the Tigers face Georgia on Saturday.
