Auburn QB Zach Calzada is set to have season-ending surgery, according to a report from Justin Hokanson of On3.

The sophomore transfer from Texas A&M will miss the rest of the season and apply for a medical redshirt. If granted, Calzada will still have three years of eligibility left. The surgery will be for his shoulder, an injury he initially picked up against Auburn last season.

The difficult decision for Calzada came after he competed for the starting quarterback job and remained ready to play. His decision also comes after it was announced that TJ Finley will miss Saturday’s game.

Calzada’s surgery calls for a 4-month rehabilitation time, meaning he will be healthy for spring practice.

Until his surgery, Calzada will continue to work with the team’s scouting team as well as help the defense prepare.

Auburn takes on Missouri on Saturday.
