Auburn opened its season last Saturday with a 42-16 win over Mercer and it seems likely that the Tigers will move to 2-0 this Saturday with San Jose State visiting the Plains.

In the victory over the Bears, the Tigers used two quarterbacks, starter T.J. Finley and backup Robby Ashford.

There’s an old adage in football that if you’re playing two QBs it means you don’t have one, but that’s a sentiment that Auburn coach Bryan Harsin doesn’t agree with.

“I think it’s fantastic,” said Harsin when asked during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference about playing two quarterbacks. “I’ve loved when I’ve done it in the past. I think it makes our team better.”

Harsin was also asked about the unfortunate situation surrounding Nick Brahms.

The 6-4, 300-pounder was a 4-year starter at center for the Tigers and played in 40 career games.

Brahms was forced to retire from football due to injury during the offseason, but he remains an active presence around the Auburn team.

“It says what we all know about him,” Harsin said. “He’s a great person. He cares about his teammates. These are his friends. … Nick would play if he could. … He’s still going to help this football team. … He can’t play. That doesn’t mean he’s not committed. That’s the thing I respect the most out of people.”

The Tigers matchup with San Jose State on Saturday night is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET).

The game will be televised by ESPNU and Auburn is currently a 22.5-point favorite.
