On Friday, Texas landed a transfer commitment from former Tennessee guard Amari Evans.
Evans spent just 1 season with the Volunteers, during which he appeared in 35 games. The 6-foot-5 guard will have 3 seasons of eligibility with the Longhorns. Evans announced his decision on his personal Instagram page.

Texas head coach Sean Miller initially recruited Evans when he was at Xavier in 2024. But Evans chose Tennessee over Pitt and Xavier out of the 2025 cycle. At the time, he was ranked as the No. 70 overall prospect and the No. 16 wing.

In his lone season with the Vols, Evans averaged 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 0.8 assists in 14.4 minutes per game while shooting 41.9% from the field. Evans drew his first 2 career starts at the end of the regular season. In the second against Vanderbilt on March 7, he scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting.
Evans joins guard Isaiah Johnson (Colorado) and David Punch (TCU) as transfer players to commit to Texas since the window opened earlier this month.
Evans is also the third former Tennessee player to leave the Vols but remain in the conference, joining Cade Phillips (Texas A&M) and Jaylen Carey (Mizzou).
