Auburn is one of the more difficult teams to predict when it comes to win-loss records this season.

As coach Bryan Harsin tries to get the Tigers back to bowl eligibility, WJOX co-hosts of “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning,” Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic analyzed Auburn’s chances for this season. They both arrived at an 8-4 record.

“I feel like a 5-0 start is possible,” Cubelic said.

McElroy added, “I think it’s paramount.”

Cubelic continued, “If you got that, and then you drop the Georgia game, then I think you need to go 2-2 in the next 4. Ole Miss on the road, Arkansas, Mississippi State on the road, A&M.

Added McElroy, “When you actually look at it, and this is not being a Birmingham radio station, when you honestly get down to brass tacks, are we giving them a couple of games that other people probably wouldn’t? Yeah. Penn State, I don’t think everyone’s going to give them that game. I don’t think everyone’s going to give them Arkansas. I don’t know how many people are going to give them Ole Miss, or even A&M.”

He added that every game on the schedule is winnable, even Georgia and Alabama because they’re rivalry games and you never know.

“Which is all you really want when you’re in the midst of a rebuild,” McElroy said. “I’m cautiously optimistic things could get going a little bit for Auburn this year.”
