One of the most emotional and heart-wrenching stories in college football, and especially the SEC, happened when Auburn radio voice Rod Bramblett and his wife were killed in a car wreck in May. But his friend and radio replacement, Andy Burcham, and his wife, became legal guardians of the Brambletts’ son, Josh.
Their story will be told on Saturday on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” as the network promoted the story this way about Burcham: “At home, he keeps a promise he made: to love and care for his friend’s family. Watch the full story tomorrow at 9am ET on ESPN.”
On Aug. 5, Andy and Jan became the legal guardians of Rod and Paula’s son, Josh, a high school sophomore, according to AuburnTigers.com. On the first day of school, Andy took Josh to Waffle House, a Bramblett family tradition to celebrate the start of a new school year. Josh’s sister, Shelby, is a junior at Auburn University.
On the GameDay story, Burcham said, “Rod’s always in the back of my mind. That never goes away. How would Rod handle this, how would Rod make this call?”
About the kids, Burcham said, “The most important thing was to be there.”
Burcham’s wife added, “Everything they had, they left with us.”
