Even current, former Auburn players couldn't help but be happy for Jalen Hurts
Auburn players, both current and former, had to be torn about the SEC Championship matchup.
But they couldn’t hide their appreciation, and even rooting interest, for Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, who came off the bench to rescue the Crimson Tide and lead them to a win over Georgia in the title game in Atlanta.
Several standouts from Alabama’s arch-rival couldn’t hold back their enthusiasm.
Most of these comments speak to the difference between a team and an individual, as almost all of them qualified their tweets by saying that they hated Auburn, but were rooting for Hurts. They probably understand, or can at least relate to, the whipsaw nature of Hurts’ career trajectory, and how the fan base reacted to him going from starter to backup.
Man I hate that team. But I can’t lie and say I’m not rooting for Jalen Hurts. God works in mysterious ways!

This #SECCHAMPIONSHIP game demonstrates a great lesson by Jalen Hurts. He is a CLASSY young man with a GLADIATOR mentality. Awesome to see a guy put TEAM before ME. Unfortunately these days…. it’s RARE! Great role model and individual. Good for him! Congrats to him/Alabama. WOW

Now the whole Bama nation has to trust Hurts, the same guy they called every name but a child of God

Bama nation didnt bash hurts. Tua is better and there is no denying that but Hurts isnt bad. They have different skill sets.
Exactly.
Yeah. I don’t get that. Alabama fans gave him standing ovations when he came out on to the field every game this season. He had our respect and appreciation. And I was rooting for him to get better and fight for the starting position.
I am not how many chat boards the other posters read but I have to disagree. Many posters trashed Hurts in fall practice before the first game. I’m not talking about the ones that respectfully pointed out his flaws. I read to many posts that said he only won because of the team around him. Blamed him for the Auburn and Clemson game. I will say that most of the negative posts disappeared after Saban went on his rant after Louisville.
Yep, lot of those haters were right here on SDS. When Jalen said no one on the Bama staff asked him what he thought might be best for his future (transfer or stay), he got attacked for being a selfish cry-baby who was pouting because he lost his starting job.
He displayed tremendous character all season. That’s the type of team player every young athlete should aspire to.
Gene Chizik is a good guy. I missed seeing the regular SEC now lineup last night after the game.
Jalen What a good person.
