Though the Alabama Crimson Tide will once again be one of the favorites to win the national title, Nick Saban’s crew faces some tough tests this year.

One of the biggest tests, according to FOX Sports analyst Tim Brando, is the annual Iron Bowl game against the Auburn Tigers, who surprised many last year by outperforming expectations and earning a Sugar Bowl berth.

On WJOX’s “The Opening Drive” show on Tuesday, Brando said the Tigers are the biggest threat to Alabama’s SEC West supremacy:

“I really believe that Gus Malzahn is in a great position, with Jarrett Stidham coming to town,” Brando said. “I saw him when [Bryce] Petty got hurt at Baylor. They didn’t miss a beat. This kid has a better arm, and I think his potential ceiling for success is bigger and better than Bryce Petty. Jarrett Stidham, in my mind, could be a real difference-maker. Not only is Auburn the team that has best chance to contend with Alabama, but I think they’re a national sleeper.”

The Tigers also have RBs Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson returning offensively, so they should be one of the SEC’s better teams on that side of the ball.

However, beating Alabama isn’t easy. Brando acknowledges that, but thinks the Tigers have a better shot than most teams of pulling off the upset.

Fans will be able to find out on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
