Like nearly everyone else outside of Sean White’s biggest supporters, Greg McElroy knew Auburn would give Jarrett Stidham the first chance to play under center this season.

While the news was no surprise to the former Alabama quarterback, McElroy believes the decision to name the Baylor transfer as the team’s starting quarterback should pay dividends heading into the second half of fall camp on the Plains.

The SEC Network analyst recently shared his thoughts on the news Tuesday during an appearance on Sirius XM Nation College Sports channel.

“It was very obvious this was the direction they were going to go but naming it now gives you clarity for the rest of the team,” McElroy said on the air.

Aside from the benefits to the Tigers as they prepare for the season opener against Georgia Southern Sept. 2, McElroy explained how Stidham’s abilities should take the Auburn offense to new heights. Provided, of course, that Stidham lives up to the hype.

“I expect him to play very well within the system and to develop a chemistry with his receivers that we have not seen from an Auburn quarterback in some time,” McElroy continued. “I’m looking forward to seeing the mix of the run game and the downfield passing attack off play action that they will now be able to do consistently because that’s what Jarrett Stidham excels at.”
