When news broke Saturday that Richard Jibunor had entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal, it wasn’t clear whether the sophomore edge-rusher had decided on leaving the program. Tigers coach Gus Malzahn has now commented on the matter and it sounds like AU fans should not expect to see Jibunor on the Plains next season.

“He’s entered the portal, and he’s going to be somewhere next year — somewhere else next year,” Malzahn told reporters at the AMBUSH Tour stop in Columbus, Georgia, per AL.com’s Tom Green. “We wish him the best.”

Jibunor played in 10 games as a freshman, recording eight tackles (including three for loss), two sacks and a forced fumble. The Athens, Georgia, native was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2018. In addition to Auburn, he had scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.
