Gus Malzahn still might be harboring some bad feelings toward Alabama.

Malzahn took part in the final USA Today Coaches Poll with the season all wrapped up. He not only ranked Alabama the lowest of any other coach, but also ranked 2 SEC teams ahead of the Crimson Tide. Alabama landed at 8th, with Missouri at No. 6 and Georgia at No. 3 on his list.

Here’s how the top 10 of Malzahn’s list looked:

  • No. 1: Michigan
  • No. 2: Washington
  • No. 3: Georgia
  • No. 4: Florida State
  • No. 5: Texas
  • No. 6: Missouri
  • No. 7: Oregon
  • No. 8: Alabama
  • No. 9: Ole Miss
  • No. 10: Ohio State

The 2020 season was the last time that Malzahn coached in the SEC. He was the head coach at Auburn from 2013-2020. His 1st season on The Plains ended with a 12-2 record and loss to the Florida State in the national championship. It was difficult for Malzahn to return to that stage, with the most wins he earned since that season being 10 in 2017. Now, Malzahn is at UCF where he just reached a bowl game for the 3rd season in a row with the Knights.

Malzahn won 3 Iron Bowls against Nick Saban while with Auburn. It looks like the rivalry is still alive even though he doesn’t coach for the Tigers anymore.
