Hugh Freeze seemingly did not know who was on the field as the returner during Auburn’s crucial muffed punt in the final minutes of the Iron Bowl.

Koy Moore was in as the returner, and he ultimately muffed the punt and set up Alabama in Auburn territory with less than 5 minutes in the game. The Tide ended up scoring after the muffed punt, taking the lead and winning the game after getting a stop on defense.

Freeze didn’t know that Moore was in as the returner, and he said that he shouldn’t have been. Keionte Scott was the return man for Auburn throughout the game, and that was who Freeze expected to be out on the field on the punt. Freeze said that Scott “must have taken himself out.”

The muffed punt cost Auburn a shot at a huge upset, and it saved Alabama’s hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff.
