Auburn seemed to hit the lottery when transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham pledged himself to the Tigers as a member of their 2017 recruiting class.

The former Baylor quarterback is an elusive runner and has the passing ability that Auburn has been lacking in recent years. On paper, Stidham should be an ideal type of player for Auburn’s offense.

So far, things appear to be going according to plan for Stidham and the Tigers. After holding a scrimmage inside of Jordan-Hare Stadium, Stidham drew some nice praise from one of his new teammates.

“Jarrett looks like an SEC starter,” Auburn running back Kam Martin told al.com. “You know, you still have the other guys behind him that are still competing; the job is wide open, but Jarrett is real good, and I feel like we’ll see next week at A-Day how everything goes.”

In limited playing time as a freshman at Baylor, Stidham completed nearly 69 percent of his passes for 1,265 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Stidham is embroiled in a competition for the Tigers’ starting quarterback job, but by all accounts, it is his to lose. If the early returns are any indication, Auburn’s offense will be even more potent than it was last season.
