Jaylin Williams came through in the late stages of Auburn’s win over Texas A&M on Tuesday night.

He hit a clutch 3-pointer that put the game away and secured the victory for the Tigers in the 2nd half after it looked like they couldn’t find the basket. Williams finished the game with the most points for Auburn at 22. He also had 7 rebounds.

Bruce Pearl told Williams to shoot the ball immediately after catching it because of how the defense was defending the Auburn forward. Williams understood the importance of the shot.

“A couple plays before, BP was telling me to take the first shot cause I had the same exact look,” Williams said at the post-game presser. “So I knew that when I caught the ball the next time I was like, ‘Man I gotta knock this down to seal the deal.'”

The Texas A&M half-court defense didn’t make things easy for the Tigers. Williams explained that it had to do with the length of some of the Aggie players.

“I just think cause they’re kinda long athletes,” said Williams. “They’re SEC players. They’ve just played really hard like they’ve always played us. It wasn’t nothing really special. That’s what we knew that were gonna do.”

Auburn is home again for next its game against LSU. Tipoff is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
