Report: Former Auburn OC expected to replace Neal Brown as Troy's head coach
Earlier this offseason, Les Miles hired Auburn OC Chip Lindsey to come to Kansas and fill the same role on his staff.
That hiring didn’t last for long, though, as Lindsey is reportedly on the move already — this time for a head coaching gig.
According to a report from FootballScoop.com on Wednesday night, Lindsey is expected to replace Neal Brown (who was recently hired at West Virginia) as Troy’s head coach.
Brown was a highly coveted candidate for openings this coaching carousel season, but managed to last through the first round of hires before being scooped up by the Mountaineers when Dana Holgorsen left for Houston.
Now, Miles and the Jayhawks are left searching for a new offensive coordinator, as Lindsey’s stint in Lawrence didn’t last very long.
whew, Troy I think you could do better
Like who?
Like anyone with head coaching experience. John Grass from Jacksonville State or Brain Bohannon from Kennesaw State would fit well in Troy. They have also won football games!
Neal Brown had zero HC experience when he came to Troy. Just because you don’t have HC experience doesn’t mean you aren’t the right candidate (i.e Dabo, Kirby). He has deep ties all over the state at the high school level and is familiar with Troy and the way things operate.
wde0012 you make valid points but the same can be said about Grass. 29 years coaching in High Schools and colleges in Alabama
No disputing Grass. But Lindsey has coached before at Troy and has ties with the AD at Southern Miss. He has wanted this job since Blakeney retired in 14. Grass is a great coach but he is also coaching at his alma mater and might not want to leave..
This was the right hire and the #1 choice.
I think we both made valid points. In the end, Lindsey was Troy’s choice. We can agree to disagree on if it was the best.
