This is second-straight season in which head coach Gus Malzahn has dismissed Auburn’s most talented offensive player. Last year, receiver D’haquille ‘Duke’ Williams was jettisoned for a multitude of reasons.

Although Williams suffered the same fate as Robinson, he was suspended twice before the dismissal was made official. Publicly it isn’t known as to what transpired between Malzahn and Robinson in recent weeks, but Malzahn may have chosen to have a ‘quicker hook’ when it comes to matters like these.
In Gus we trust… He knows it’s his A$$ on the line this year and as he’s been down this road with Duke, decided to use a quicker hook rather than just suspending. Gets it right and KJ has a great year: he’s a hero, goes 5-7 and no run game, he’s unemployed. Good luck on that Gus….
Hate to lose him, but Gus can’t have a goof-off on the team. He would be a bad influence and possibly lead to losing eligibility anyway. Gotta do the right thing, regardless of the consequences. Some teams don’t do that – you know who you are.
Well done Gus. Laziness and stupidity should not be tolerated on a cfb team. Hope Johnson does good and auburn still has a good year.
I guess getting caught on camera assaulting someone from behind is ok for some star RBs as long as the team votes to keep him.
Wtf?
I think these decisions are made on an individual basis at LSU. Miles kicked his best player (Tyrann Mathieu) off the team and did not let the team vote on it. If he’ll kick Mathieu off the team, he’ll kick anyone off the team.
Problem with young men at this age is they can do the dumbest things for reasons that just don’t make sense. Just when you think you have rules that will cover everything, some 18 year old will invent something you never thought of. Really hard from most press releases to figure out what really goes on in a team. Miles and every other college coach is running a business that masquerades as an educational program, and does so under intense scrutiny. Miles walks that line as well as any of his peers.
It stinks to lose such a good player, but I have a lot of respect for a coach that will make that choice to suspend someone. Its nice knowing there are coaches like Malzahn and Beliema who can make those hard decisions. It’s a character move and hopefully the kid will learn from it and grow better and not bitter.
Agreed. Clearly, if the story of missing classes is true, there was going to be an academic issue with him anyway. Hope he can get his head on straight and get to another program– perhaps Jr. College and make something of his talent.
Didn’t Robinson already go to JUCO?
It’s probably in his best interest to not delay his CFL career by another year. I’m sure this is the advice he’s getting from auburn’s strong CFL contingent.
