Auburn was the first of several SEC schools to offer a scholarship to running back DJ Williams, and the Tigers saw their faith rewarded Wednesday.

Williams selected Auburn over Alabama and Georgia, among other schools, during the first day of the Early Signing Period. An Appalachian State commit at the time of Auburn’s November offer, the 3-star running back out of Sebring, Florida, became a hot prospect over the past six weeks but ultimately settled on his first big-name suitor.

According to 247Sports.com’s composite ratings, Williams is No. 25 at his position among Class of 2019 prospects.

He is the first running back to join the Tigers’ 13th-ranked recruiting class.  The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder will be a welcome addition to an Auburn running backs room that just lost freshman Asa Martin to transfer.

Miami, Clemson and Texas were other Power 5 programs in the mix to land Williams.
