The Auburn head coaching search continues after the school decided to fire Gus Malzahn Sunday afternoon following a 6-4 season. The school will owe Malzahn $21.5 million due to his buyout.

Among other candidates, Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was reportedly set to interview for the vacancy. However, Elliott has shot down that report in a statement.

“Contrary to reports I saw (Friday), I have not been contacted about the head coaching job at Auburn and am not scheduled to interview for that position,” Elliott said in a statement to ESPN’s Marty Smith. “While I typically wouldn’t address this in this manner, I felt it was important to set the record straight for the young men in our program. My focus currently remains 100% on our team & the opportunity we have to face a great Notre Dame team for the ACC Championship Saturday.”

Elliott has been on Clemson’s staff since 2011, and he has no previous head coaching experience. However, the former Clemson wide receiver has coached the running backs, co-coordinated the offense and is now the team’s offensive coordinator.

He’s one of the nation’s most well-thought-of assistants and will be a future head coach one day.

Clemson plays Notre Dame Saturday in the ACC Championship Game at 4:00 p.m. ET.
