Clemson athletic diretor Graham Neff and vice president of student affairs Doug Hallenbeck released a statement a day after fans threw water bottles onto the field to protest an onside kick call against the Tigers during a 33-21 loss to Louisville.

“The acts of few reflect on many, and throwing objects onto the field runs counter to the environment we aim to create and who we are as a Clemson Family. At the same time, we commend those who encouraged others to stop, mitigated further issues and quickly cleared the field,” the statement read in part. “The core values of our University begin with integrity and respect, and we expect our students to uphold these qualities at all times.”

With 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Clemson pulled to within 26-14 after a short touchdown run by Phil Mafah. The Tigers then lined up for an onside kick and appeared to recover it, but possession was awarded to Louisville following a review. Some Tigers fans then responded by throwing water bottles onto the field.

It doesn’t appear any punishment will stem from Saturday’s events, but the ACC will certainly be on high alert. Clemson’s next home game, meanwhile, is on Nov. 23 against The Citadel.
