Clemson trailed Louisville, 26-14, after Phil Mafah’s short touchdown run capped a 16-play drive.

The Tigers, looking to get the ball back with 6 minutes remaining, lined up for an onside kick. It appeared as if Clemson had recovered it, but officials ruled that it was Louisville football, and after further review, the call stood — without any apparent explanation as to why.

Tigers fans were incensed, responding by throwing objects on the field. Here’s video from ESPN:

This is the third week in a row where fans have protested a call on the field by throwing debris from the stands.

During the Texas-Georgia game in Austin, a Texas defender appeared to come up with an interception of Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, but after further discussion from the officials, it was negated due to a pass interference. Longhorns fans peppered the DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium playing surface with debris in protest, leading the SEC to ban all involved from any remaining Texas athletic events for the remainder of the academic year.

Then, during Week 10’s Ohio State-Nebraska game, several Buckeyes fans fired bottles onto the field at Ohio Stadium after a controversial targeting call against defender Arvell Reese was upheld. The Big Ten took no further action.
