Clemson back on College Football Playoff bubble after App State win, per ESPN projection
Clemson remains in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth, according to ESPN’s latest projection.
After getting dismantled by Georgia in Week 1, the Tigers followed up that disappointing performance with a blowout win of their own over App State in Week 2. The Tigers won 66-20, with quarterback Cade Klunik having one of the most productive games of his career to-date.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Heather Dinich issued updated seeding projections for the upcoming College Football Playoff. Dinich also discussed several teams who are on the outside-looking-in of the CFP bubble, which is where Clemson comes in.
The Tigers were included amongst Dinich’s first 4 teams out of the Playoff mix. Here’s what Dinich said about the Tigers’ case:
The Tigers took a lot of heat after the loss to Georgia, and they took it out on App State 66-20. While Clemson isn’t on par with the SEC’s top team, it’s certainly good enough to win a watered-down ACC. In fact, ESPN Analytics likes Clemson to win the league over both Louisville and Miami at 27.5%.
The other 3 teams who just missed out on this CFP projection were Missouri, Kansas State and Utah.
In this scenario, Miami earned the No. 3 seed by virtue of winning the ACC. Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma State were granted the other first-round byes. As for the at-large bids, Clemson lost out to Texas, Ole Miss, USC, Oregon, Penn State, Alabama and Tennessee. Northern Illinois, fresh off of its win in South Bend, is projected to win the final automatic berth.
Clemson is off in Week 3, but seems to be headed in the right direction after a disappointing showing in Week 1. The Tigers will host NC State on Sept. 21.

So if Clemson runs the table and beats Louisville, FSU and South Carolina, but loses to Miami in the title game, do they get in? If they beat Miami, does Miami still get in if they run the table?
She doesn’t really know what she is talking about. I doubt Clemson even sniffs it.
