Dabo Swinney announces pair of season-ending injuries for Clemson's defense
Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers got back on track in Week 2 after a disappointing Week 1.
The Tigers suffered a beatdown at the hands of the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs in Week 1. Instead of rolling over, the team went out and did the same thing to App State in Week 2, earning a 66-20 victory.
Unfortunately, the Tigers still received some bad news in Week 2 even with a dominant victory.
Kobe McCloud and Caleb Nix both suffered injuries on Saturday that will sideline them for the rest of the 2024 season.
McCloud is a key backup inside linebacker while Nix is a core special teamer.
“Kobe, a very important player for us, and then Caleb, a starter on all of our special teams and a backup safety guy for us,” Swinney said, via the Clemson Insider. “But just two great kids and you just hate it for those guys, so some other guys will have to step up in those roles.”

McCloud collected a tackle in the opener against Georgia and has 16 career tackles in 93 snaps with the Tigers. Nix walked on to the team in 2022 and saw his first action of the 2024 season against App State in Week 2. Nix is the brother of former Auburn and Oregon QB Bo Nix.
Swinney did provide some good news on injured defensive tackle Peter Woods, who left the App State game with an injury as well. Woods is “day-to-day,” per Swinney.
The Tigers have a bye in Week 3 before welcoming in NC State in Week 4.
