ESPN broadcasters question why Trevor Lawrence played in 4th quarter of South Carolina game

Clemson held a 28-point lead over South Carolina en route to a 38-3 in Columbia. ESPN’s Tom Luginbill and Greg McElroy did not understand why Trevor Lawrence was not only in the game but running the football.
“What is Clemson doing right now? This makes no sense,” Luginbill said from the booth.
McElroy agreed that the injury risk outweighed any benefit.
“Nothing good can come of this. I’m just scarred from the Tua Tagovailoa injury,” McElroy said.
McElroy added, “The game is over. Don’t expose him to unnecessary risks by dropping him in the run game. Give it to your running back. Don’t expose Lawrence to unnecessary hits.”
Lawrence finished 26-of-36 passing for 295 yards and three touchdowns and, perhaps most importantly, left the game healthy. Clemson appears to be a lock for the College Football Playoff as long as it wins next week’s ACC Championship Game against Virginia, but one has to wonder if Swinney was trying to impress the selection committee by playing Lawrence in a blowout.
