The 2022 SEC Baseball Tournament has had a nightmare scenario playing out this week in Hoover, Alabama. Significant rain has delayed and postponed multiple games 2 days into the tournament. The tournament got underway on Tuesday, but it has been interrupted by rain multiple times causing delays and postponements.

More bad news — heavy thunderstorms are forecasted for Thursday, too, as play tries to resume at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex. The tournament is now 3 games behind schedule and only 4 days remain to crown a champion.

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the SEC announces Thursday that the tournament will be moved to a single elimination format or the tournament adds another ballpark to help get in games.

Following the conclusion of the SEC baseball tournament — and other conference tournaments, the field of 64 teams and regional site locations will be announced and played June 3-5, Super Regionals will be played June 10-12 and the College World Series will be played June 16 through June 27.

Where we currently stand

  • Alabama eliminated Georgia 5-3 on May 24.
  • Florida eliminated South Carolina 2-1 on May 24.
  • Vanderbilt eliminated Ole Miss 3-1 on May 24.
  • Due to rain, Auburn and Kentucky was postponed until Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET. Kentucky beat Auburn 3-1 to advance in the winner’s bracket. Auburn fell to the loser’s bracket.
  • Alabama upset Arkansas 4-3. The Tide advance in the winner’s bracket, as the Hogs fell to the loser’s bracket.
  • Two games were postponed Wednesday and rescheduled for Thursday, making the tournament 3 games behind schedule by our count.
  • As of now, 3 of the top seeds — Tennessee, Texas A&M and LSU — are all in action Thursday; however, rain is once again in the forecast. The Vols, Aggies and Tigers are the only 3 teams to have not played a game in Hoover yet.
