College basketball AP Top 25, Week 8: Kentucky and Tennessee rise in latest poll to lead 3 SEC teams
AP Top 25 voters rewarded Tennessee and Kentucky this week in Monday’s latest poll as they moved up in the top 10 after solid wins over Tarleton State and Louisville.
Tennessee moved up 2 spots to No. 6 in the poll, while the Wildcats bumped up one spot to No. 8. Ole Miss was the other SEC team in the poll at No. 24. Purdue remained at No. 1 while Florida Atlantic made the biggest jump up 7 spots to No. 7.
Other SEC teams who received votes were Auburn, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Alabama.
By conference, the Big 12 again had the most ranked teams with 6 and the Big East had 4. The ACC, Big Ten and SEC each had 3.
Kentucky is coming off a big game from Antonio Reeves when he scored 30 points, including 22 in the first half, to lift the Wildcats past archrival Louisville 95-76 on Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.
This is the 46th consecutive week the Vols are in the AP Top 25, extending the program record — the prior high was 37 —and the 19th time during that span they are in the top 10. This is also the 5 time in the last 6 seasons Tennessee has been in the AP top 6, including the 4th in a row. Before Rick Barnes became coach, the Vols had 6 total seasons in program history with a top-6 AP ranking.
