Penny Hardaway apologizes to Memphis, players and fans after explicit postgame rant went viral
Penny Hardaway addressed his postgame rant in a video message tweeted Saturday by the Memphis basketball account.
“I want to issue an apology to my school, to the players and to our fans. I let my emotions get the best of me last night, and that’s not the way you handle situations,” Hardaway said. He did not address the reporter or the media in his video message.

Cassie Carlson of WMC Action News 5 tweeted a video from Thursday night’s press conference after Memphis lost to SMU, falling to 9-8 on the season. According to Carlson, Hardaway was asked if he can get the job done at Memphis. The Tigers head coach went off on the reporter, dropping multiple f-bombs:
“I think one thing I can say to this media, because this media gets kind of (bleeped) up sometimes when it comes to me: We don’t have our full roster. Y’all know we don’t have our full roster. Stop asking me stupid (bleeping) questions about if I can do something. If I had my roster, like they did, then I feel like I can do whatever I want to do. I’m coaching really hard, my boys are playing really hard, I’m not embarrassed about nothing. We have 4 freshmen starting, y’all need to act like it. Act like we got 17- and 18- and 19-year-olds out here trying to learn how to play against 22-, 23- and 24-year-old guys.
“Come on, man. Stop disrespecting me, bro. Like, don’t do that. I work too (bleeping) hard. I work way too hard for that. Y’all write all these bulls— articles about me and all I do is work. We got young kids on the floor. They got young kids on the floor.”
Carlson’s video has over 2.3 million views after more than 3,000 retweets.
