Stanford is hoping that its transition from the Pac-12 to the basketball-centric ACC, along with the arrival of coach Kyle Smith will help bring back the success it enjoyed during the decade between 1994-2004. It got off to a strong start in its inaugural season for both by posting 21 wins, its most since 2015, and placing big man Maxime Reynaud on the All-ACC first-team.

Under the direction of coach Mike Montgomery, the Cardinal won 4 conference championships, went to 10 straight NCAA Tournaments and made it to the Final Four in 1998 – a team led by future Los Angeles Laker and current Cal coach Mark Madsen.

Montgomery’s successor Trent Johnson continued the winning ways with 3 more NCAA appearances in the next 4 seasons. But Stanford has only been back to the Big Dance once since.
