Underdog Fantasy Champions Classic picks: Who we like in Duke-Michigan State and Kansas-Kentucky
Underdog Fantasy is the place to be for DFS enthusiasts this college basketball season! Tuesday night is the unofficial tipoff of the season. Yes, the regular season has technically been taking place for over a week, but the Champions Classic always feels special.
Tonight’s games are incredible. Top veterans will square off against elite freshmen. Here’s the schedule for the 2 games in Chicago:
- No. 9 Duke vs. No. 18 Michigan State — 7 p.m. ET on ESPN
- No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 17 Kentucky — 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
Yeah, those are going to be fun games to watch. And the College Football Playoff rankings come out in between the matchups! My Picks for the Champions Classic
Kyle Filipowski, Duke: Lower than 28.5 points+rebounds+assists
Filipowski could have been in the first-round mix in last year’s NBA Draft, but he chose to return to school. He’ll be a first-round pick soon enough, and he should have a big night tonight. But both the Spartans and Blue Devils have played at extremely slow paces this year so far. Filipowski can have a major impact for Duke and still not hit 29 points+rebounds+assists. It’s going to be a slog tonight in Chicago. Take the lower option here and don’t look back.
Jared McCain, Duke: Lower than 14.5 points+rebounds+assists
This pick involves a lot of the same logic as above. McCain is a freshman, and Michigan State’s veteran backcourt should make life tough for him tonight. He has a bright future ahead of him, but having one of his first collegiate games come against a Tom Izzo Michigan State team is not a recipe for success for the young guard. He’ll finish with 14 or fewer points+rebounds+assists in the first game of the Champions Classic tonight.
Tre Mitchell, Kentucky: Lower than 23.5 points+rebounds+assists
Going up against new Kansas big man Hunter Dickinson won’t be easy for the Kentucky transfer. Look for the Wildcats to try to slow the Jayhawks down offensively. I think Mitchell is a good player, but I don’t like his chances of hitting his number tonight against the No. 1 team in the nation.
