Another bowl game reportedly in jeopardy due to COVID-19 issues
We’ve already seen a handful of bowl games canceled due to COVID-19 issues this year. Other bowl games have had teams replaced.
Now, the Arizona Bowl is reportedly in jeopardy.
According to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated, Boise State is working to determine if it can play in the bowl game or if there are too many COVID issues in the program:
Boise is working to determine if it has enough players to play Central Michigan in the Arizona Bowl, sources tell @SINow.
If Boise doesn’t play, CMU could be paired with Washington State, which is at Sun Bowl site w/o an opponent.
Tucson to El Paso is a 4-hour drive.

As Dellenger states, Central Michigan could shift from the Arizona Bowl to the Sun Bowl to take on Washington State if Boise State can’t play:
Boise has not left for El Paso, sources tell @SINow. CMU arrived yesterday in Tucson. WSU arrived yesterday in El Paso and learned, within hours of arriving, that Miami could not play.
These are very preliminary discussions on a CMU-WSU game, but it is doable, sources say.

There’s still a chance the Arizona Bowl could be played as scheduled. But, for now, at least there’s a backup plan in place that would help both Central Michigan and Washington State play.
