Cameron Blankenship, the Louisiana-Monroe offensive line coach, posted an apology on social media after a heated sideline interaction with one of his players during a loss to Marshall on Saturday.
“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during (Saturday’s) game,” Blankenship wrote. “I recognize that my physical contact with a player was inappropriate, and I take full responsibility for it. I value the trust of our players and there are no excuses for my actions. I am committed to learning from this incident. I appreciate the support of our team and am dedicated to creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone moving forward.”
During the game, Blankenship was seen on camera yelling at offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. Blankenship ran after Hutchinson and appeared to shove him on the sideline while continuing to berate him, ultimately needing to be led away by another player.
Louisiana-Monroe issued a statement after the game addressing the incident, stating that disciplinary action against Blankenship would be taken.
“This behavior is unacceptable and not how ULM football conducts business,” the statement read in part.
Louisiana-Monroe, in its first season under head coach Bryant Vincent, fell to 5-3 (3-2 Sun Belt) with the loss to Marshall. It returns to action in Week 11 against Texas State.
