College Football Playoff: Fans, media react to latest news on stalemate over expansion
By Keith Farner
Published:
College Football Playoff expansion was put off on Friday until at least 2026, and fans and media reacted to the news.
About 7 months after it appeared the sport would move toward a 12-team Playoff, the CFP is set to remain a 4-team format through the 2025 season after the administrators who manage the postseason failed to agree on a plan to expand before the current contracts run out.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
The College Football Playoff will remain a 4-team playoff for at least 4 more seasons.
Eight months ago, the leaders of the CFP were patting each other on the back about how its 12-team Playoff proposal came together for the good of college football, and yet here they are after mounds of BS, still sitting on four teams: https://t.co/YeFJfTh6DC

College football playoff staying at 4 teams for no. I don’t hate it #cfb

Thankfully, the College Football Playoff won’t expand until at least the 2026 season. Hopefully they renew the current deal and it will stay at four teams for another 12 years. https://t.co/ZueRWQHQEm

Basically any expanded College Football Playoff scenario would’ve made everybody involved a lot more money, but they didn’t do it because each potential scenario benefitted some parties more than others. Really incredible stuff! https://t.co/3bzErU1D58

I don’t want playoff expansion.
I dont want mediocre teams finding their way into the playoffs. It’s less exciting.
Playoff expansion means competitiveness📉📉
